Welcome to Cedar Island News

Cedar Island is a small, quiet, Second Life community for people who are involved in research or creative projects and are interested in sharing and discussing their work. The area consists of two adjoined islands designed by Jon Seattle with the help of Moon Adamant to resemble a US pacific northwest coastal village. The north island, Sea Turtle island, hosts Second Life's Quaker meeting house, the new Music Island, and is used as a laboratory for educational projects.

Residents are involved in projects that involve self-education and share their work by giving two talks or hosting two events each calendar quarter and setting up a poster or display in the community gallery. Resident projects are artistic, professional, or academic. Group projects, especially among residents, are encouraged.

Cedar Island is run by its residents using consensus decision making. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consensus_decision-making, especially "Quaker Model" for information on this process.) The resident meeting meets monthly to decide on membership and community policy.
